How to Sell More Using Storytelling in Emails
A few years ago, I had a simple question: Can storytelling actually help you sell more? 🤔
The answer?
Absolutely YES! 🎉
But only if you follow these six steps…
I break it all down in Chapter 11 of my book, but let’s dive into it here so you can start using storytelling in your emails TODAY.
The STORY Framework
This is the simple formula I use to craft engaging, sales-driven emails.
📝 S - Start with action
- Drop your reader into the middle of the action.
- Think about an exciting moment that sparks curiosity.
- Example: “I was pacing around my office, frustrated out of my mind.” (Sounds interesting, right?)
📖 T - Tie in the scene
- Give a little context so the reader understands what’s happening.
- A few sentences will do—don’t overcomplicate it!
💡 O - Offer the lesson
- What’s the takeaway? What did you learn that your audience can benefit from?
- Make sure your story provides value to your reader.
🔗 R - Relate it to the offer
- Now, smoothly transition into your offer.
- Use an “If… then” statement:
“If this lesson resonated with you, then you’re going to love what I’m about to share.”
📢 Y - Your reader’s next step
- Tell them exactly what to do next.
- Whether it’s joining your program, purchasing your book, or downloading a freebie, make it clear and simple.
Storytelling in Action: Real Email Examples
Here are three subject lines I’ve used that follow this framework:
1️⃣ Why I Felt Frustrated This Morning – Starts with action.
2️⃣ Goals Are Useless Without This – Sparks curiosity.
3️⃣ Stuck for 6 Years, Unstuck in One Week – Shows transformation.
Each of these emails tells a story, teaches a lesson, and smoothly leads into an offer. And guess what? They convert like crazy! 🚀
